TENNESSEE DIVING DOG CLUB

Dock diving is a fun way to spend time with your dog. We introduce your dog to the water by learning how to go down the ramp and get a toy. As the dog learns to go up and down the ramp and into the water, they start to enjoy the fun play time with you. Some dogs of course already love the water and will just jump right in, but they still must learn how to get out of the pool. At our facility we use life jackets on the dogs for your safety as well as the safety of the dog. We help you and your pup build confidence on the ramp area until they start jumping on their own off the ramp. If your dog has strong

drive to go after a toy we then advance to the upper dock and start teaching you how to throw the toy for the best jump for your dog. Many people go on after they have learned the sport and enjoy participating in events for competition. There are several different events in the competition events, the main one being the length of the jump when you throw your toy for your dog. Judges measure the distance of the jump by recording where the base of the dog’s tail hits the water. Air Retrieve is another dock diving event (we do not teach this at our facility). The goal is for the dog to knock off or grab a bumper toy that is hanging approximately 6 feet above the pool. For every successful grab or knock-off, the bumper is moved 1 foot further from the dock. Sports for dogs are an excellent way to strengthen your bond with your pet through play while also giving them a good workout---and dock diving is no exception. The goal is to keep it fun for you and your dog!

Note: Pool is only open from the last Saturday in April to the last Saturday in September. (Weather Permitting)
